The Most Well-Known Estonian Fashion Designer
Ivo Nikkolo is told to be the most well-known Estonian designer.
If you ask any local person the question about which Estonian designer he or she knows, the answer will definitely be “Ivo Nikkolo”. He is absolutely outstanding in his style. Ivo Nikkolo’s team is working professionally and very creatively.
The style of the latest shows in general is something like country-rock – vintage - Leningrad Cowboys - business style. We can say that the main customer is a man or a woman, who loves life and chooses the best sides of it.
I had a chance and met Ivo and his marketing manager in their oldest boutique on Suur-Karja street, 14 in Tallinn.
Ivo Nikkolo fashion brand was launched in 1994. Ivo usually gets inspiration from the fabric itself, when he sees the fabric, he creates in his mind the model and the form which can grow from this piece of material. Most of the fabrics that are currently used by the brand are ordered from Italy.
Italian fashion school is Ivo’s favorite. He likes Cavalli, but he does not have any favorite designer, as the collections are changing all the time and does not stay the same.
Here are some of Ivo’s thoughts about the modern fashion. Fashion always reflects the society and the conditions of its life. Nowadays the fashion probably has the lack of imagination, that’s why it is so often trying to find inspiration in the past or may be the modern person has some nostalgia for the past times.
In his collections Ivo is following the main trends in modern fashion but at the same time he is always attaching his soul to what he is doing.
Ivo Nikkolo has the plans to grow through the new markets, mainly through the Baltic States – Latvia and Lithuania and probably through Russia. At present you can find his boutiques in Tallinn: in Kaubamaja, Kristiine, Stockmann and the oldest one on Suur-Karja street, as well as in Riga on Elizabetas street and in the big shops in Sweden and in Helsinki.
