Riga Fashion Week
Riga Fashion Week 2006 was organized by the Baltic Fashion Federation (BBF) under the patronage of the President of Fédération Française du Prêt-à-Porter Feminin and Paris Capital de la Creation, Mr. Jean-Pierre Mocho. Now RIGA Fashion Week is official and it takes a place in the World Fashion Week Calendar. Like Vogue once wrote – Riga has always been famous of their style, in the 20's and 30's it was like little Paris. In the 80's it was a place for the rich and stylish Russian women. But now, after 13 years of independence they are showing their style once again knowing it is more important than ever before.
The leading fashion designers from the Baltic states: Latvia (Alexander Bibergal, Gints Bude, Davids, Keita, Zanete Auzina, Mare & Rol`s, Natalija Jansone), Lithuania (Julija Zileniene, Ramune Piekautaite) and Estonia (Oksana Tandit, Triinu Pungits, Bastion), as well as designers from Russia and France will present their collections. The prominent French designer Gaspard Yurkievich will be presenting his collection as a guest of honour. The guest of honour from Russia will be Alena Akhumadullina.
Latvian round of the international contest of the young designers - "Couturier of the year" - will be held in the framework of the Riga Fashion Week. According to the international standards Riga Fashion Week is organized twice a year. This will be the third time Riga Fashion Week is organized by the Baltic Fashion Federation. After this Fashion Week in Riga, there was a show in France for Latvian designers. Gints Bude, Aleksander Bibergal, Natalija Jansone and new most important talents MARE & ROL'S showed their last collections for the French press. This is the first time when Latvian designers go this big. It is important to show what is Latvian style, and just introduce it to the world.
Riga has always been a fashion city. The city now tries to get back its reputation as one of the key fashion centers in Northern Europe.
