From PRAVDA to PRADA
Russian Fashion – still trying to identify itself on the way from PRAVDA to PRADA Russian Fashion Week, season spring-summer 2007
The main but not the only fashion event of Russia took place from the 18th till the 25th of October in Moscow in Gorky Park. Two previous years RFW was held near the Red Square, on Vasilievskiy Spusk. This time the new location near the central entrance to the Gorky Park gave the show organizers an opportunity to provide a bigger space and invite more top designers to present their collections to the Russian and international press. Among the countries represented in the tents and on the catwalks were Ukraine, Byelorussia, Peru, Greece, Great Britain, Italy, the US and of course, Russia.
The first day kicked off with Alexander Vassiliev who hails from Ukraine. He was followed by Kusso, sokolovaBogorodskaya, Frankie Morello (Italy) and a participant of last Milan Fashion Week this September – Max Chernitsov.
A prominent international representative on the first day was the Greece Fashion Week participant, Angelos Frentzos.
A supporter of young talent, RFW also featured five representatives of 'Russkyi Silhouette' – the fashion contest for young designers.
In addition, International Day featured American designers presenting in cooperation with TSUM (Central Moscow Shop), including: Laundry by Shelli Segal, Rebecca Taylor and Baby Phat, which also showed at New York Olympus Fashion Week this past September.
The closing day of RFW included great talents like Russian Silhouette winners, Tamuna Iingorokva from Georgia, Victoria Krasnova from Ukraine, Yulia Nikolaeva, the public favorites Elena Souproun, Larissa Pogoretskaya and Jenny Packham (UK).
Jenny presented her spring/summer 2007 collection on Russian Fashion Week catwalks after Milan Fashion Week. The public's favorite 'James Bond dress' was also loved by Russian publicity. The new design of Motorola KRAZR K1 mobile phone, created by Jenny is the joint project of Motorola and RFW.
And of course the favorite trio Fresh Art – the most scandal showing of the closing day, which attracted the famous representatives of Russian Gay Crowd, and the party finally began. In their new collection which is called ETC., there is a parallel between the human body and meat. Women collection mainly consists of the flashy dresses with very difficult cut and always with the long décolleté. In general it reminds the style of the times of French king Ludovic XVI, dancers of Moulin Rouge cabaret, and the style of Russian girls of the end of XIX, very much mixed with brutal erotic. Along with the showing and in addition to it there was the video art background, showing the flesh and the meat and the blood, so the bodies of the models were percepted in the light of the video, and there was the final feeling of disgust to those bodies on the catwalk. Along with the collection of women dress, Fresh Art presented their collection of footwear “Econica by Fresh Art” – the joint project with famous Russian footwear brand Econica. Gay majority and women minority in the hall were absolutely impressed by the sunbathed muscular bodies of men-models, wearing just a small black bikini, having the marginal, underground style heavy boots on their legs. One of the models was having the bunch of boots in his hands and was swinging boots like the lashes or keeping it in his hands and walking as if walking with the dogs on the leads. After the show all the crowd left to the old factory for the closed VIP show of Jenny Packham and then to the after-party, which was held in Dyagilev Club. Parallel to RFW, Moscow Fashion Week was taking place in Gostiniy Dvor. This event is becoming more professional, high-class and popular among the international fashion buyers then RFW.
